Choosing New Fabrics for the Studio – A Thoughtful Process Rooted in Inspiration

One of the most rewarding parts of running a quilt studio and small fabric shop is the process of choosing new fabrics I carry. It's a deeply personal and creative endeavor, one that blends inspiration, planning, and a healthy dose of realism.
The fabrics you see in the studio are not chosen randomly. They're a reflection of what excites me, what sparks creativity, and what I genuinely want to sew with myself. As a small shop owner, I have limited space, so every bolt I bring in has to earn its spot. That means being highly selective, choosing modern, fun, and bright fabrics that not only catch the eye but feel fresh and inspiring to work with.

I spend a lot of time flipping through catalogs and books from wholesalers, scrolling through websites, and imagining how each fabric might be used. How it would look in a quilt, a bag, or a garment. I map out my space and calendar, planning which collections to bring in and when they’ll arrive. Timing matters, especially when trying to keep the shop feeling fresh without overwhelming the shelves (or you!).
In today’s uncertain economy, there’s another layer to the decision-making process: I need to make smart, thoughtful choices to ensure the fabrics I bring in won’t just sit on the shelves collecting dust. Every fabric has to have purpose and potential, and that’s something I take very seriously. I want the fabrics in the shop to not only reflect my aesthetic, but to serve you well in your creative projects.
So if you ever wonder why you’re drawn to the selection here, it’s because I am too. The fabrics you see are the ones that light me up. I hope they light you up as well.
Whether you're walking through the door or browsing online, thank you for supporting a small studio with big heart. Every fabric here was chosen with care and with you in mind.
