CLASS TIME & LOCATION
Saturday 1/31/26
11:00am to 4:00pm
Coastside Quilt Studio, 1305 Palmetto Avenue, Unit E, Pacifica
18+ only please.
In this class we’ll use freezer paper to build up layers of appliqué to create playful layered designs based on simple shapes. Come and learn this easy hand sewing technique in an engaging 6-hour workshop.
Skill Level: Confident Beginner
No kit, class price includes Handout and patterns.
Supplies and Tools:
- Fabric: A selection of solid fabrics: Kona cotton solids, shot cottons & Japanese yarn dyes all work well. You could also try using textured prints that read as solid. You’ll be working on a block that will be 12x12” finished, consisting of a 3x3 grid of 4” squares. Depending on the palette you choose to work with, bring a variety of fat quarters, fat eights and/or scraps
- Threads: You need two types of thread for this method:
- For the applique brands I recommend are: Aurifil #50 weight, Metler Silk finish cotton or Tire #50 weight silk. Use either colors that match the pieces you are applying to the fabrics, or a neutral that will blend with everything.
- For making your circles, you will need a spool of #30 weight silk thread, which is strong and smooth. I use Tire #30 weight silk. You can get it online at Superior threads. This is used as a utility thread, therefore color does not matter.
- Applique Pins: Little House brand are the best. Clover also makes appliqué pins.
- Needles: #7 embroidery or whatever you like to use for hand-sewing.
- Fabric Scissors
- Paper Scissors
- Snips
- Thimble, if you use one.
